Our Classical Pilates at Just Breathe is driven from a sense of elegant strength, dynamic stability, and quiet power embedded in kinesthetic awareness.Pilates is more than a workout. It is a continuum of mindful movements that strengthen from the inside out and head to toe. Pilates focuses around six main principals: Centering, Control, Concentration, Precision, Breath and Flow. In his book Return to Life through Contrology Joseph Pilates presents his method as the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout (not a therapy) when properly manifested. If practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. The core, consisting of the muscles of the abdomen, low back, and hips, is often called the “powerhouse” and is thought to be the key to a person’s stability. Pilates’ system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced or to any other level, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner’s specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body adapts itself to the exercises.
Your sessions at Just Breathe will be on the classical apparatus as Mr. Pilates created: the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Low Chair, the Wunda Chair, the Spine Corrector, and the Ladder Barrel along with small props and the Magic Circle. We also strongly believe in the importance of Mat Work and teaching it so the client can continue their Pilates practice while away from the studio.
We offer Private sessions, Duets with a friend or we can match you with another, Trios with friends or we can match you with others, and Group Classes.
Pilates and Ortho-Bionomy®
These two modalities complement each other so perfectly. When places of resistance or disease are felt in the body certain positions in Pilates can feel forced or stuck. Through Ortho, be it a 5 minute release or a full body session, those feelings or places of being stuck can be released and reorganized. The body is able to move with more freedom and a deeper neurological understanding of structural organization. Each private session is catered to what each client needs. It is great to know we have options of body movement when the body is not quite cooperating that day!!
